Wow. What a feel-good read. Don't let the pink cover fool you! I cannot even begin on how much I recommend this book to all y’all. Seriously, everyone. Personally I have been thrown a few ~not-so-good~ things in life recently, and this book was an eye-opener to start looking up. It’s so easy to hear and read motivational quotes and phrases. . but Sadie Robertson makes it easier to start believing and living them. If you’re not the “reading type” . . . or simply cannot “find time” in your days to sit down for a good read - I’ll grace you with a quick recap:
For starters, it’s a reminder of your purpose and significance. Did you know the odds of being alive are basically near zero? Sadie begins by pointing out Dr. Ali Binzar’s research that concludes “the odds of you existing are 1 in 10^2,685,000.” That is just crazy to actually think about. That makes me believe there HAS TO BE a reason you and I are here, right now, today. I love when Robertson wrote “there is something in you that the world is craving.”
A few important take-aways that stood out to me:
We are given “2 bottom line options”: life & death. Not the physicality of these options, but the spiritual, emotional, relational realms of our lives. God has given us the choice between life and death, but pleads for us to chose LIFE.
Live in things that are eternal and everlasting.. “Gap fillers” are real & they are temporary. Diet pills, photoshop, addictions. They will leave us “high and dry.” Don’t let the world around us define who you are. God has given you life to live to fulfill His unique purpose for you. “YOU are not worthless, but what you believe about yourself is worth less than your identity God set out for you.”
Shift your focus from “about” yourself and others to “for” yourself and others. (pg. 24) Bring class back to the “tea parties.” Our words are powerful and have the influence of life or death. Spilling the tea and negative self talk are detrimental to others and ourselves. We know this, so let’s start believing it.
Do not be scared to profess your Christianity, no matter what stage of faith you’re in. Be bold and step outside the world’s limitations. You can turn in His direction on your path of life! It’s never too late (prodigal son story). He is always ready to help you turn.
Comparison has GOT TO GO for us to build each other up; as the Word tells us to. Why are we trying to be more like the person next to us, or the celebrities we watch, or individuals we follow on instagram? We are each our own original masterpiece, and Genesis 1:27 simply states each one of us bears the image of God, and he is incomparable.
And, even if after all this, you’re still not picking up what I’m putting down. . just read the book 😉
Reading with friends? “Book Club” questions to ponder & share:
Exchange waiting for believing. . . Use your waiting season to focus 1) on your relationship with God & 2) what you already have. Ask God to give you the faith to believe. . it’s exactly what He wants you to ask of Him. What have you been waiting for recently? Is there something you already do have that you can focus on? In your life, how can you shift to believing?
Live in the moment! We shouldn’t be stopping to take photos or film - we SHOULD be singing and dancing. Yes, sleep is important. But Sadie asks, “When was the last time you couldn’t wait until morning?” This hit deep! Really think about it . . . When was the last time you were excited to wake up? What is something you are looking forward to waking up for?
“Don’t let the fear of getting roasted stop you from doing something you are excited about doing!” (Pg. 135) If someone stops you before you even start, they ultimately win. If God is for you, no one can stop you. What is something you have been wanting to do, but are fearful of others thoughts or judgments? Make a plan to just do it!
